A gentle rain poured down over the Golden Land rose garden. Battler and Beatrice were outside, keeping the door to the Golden Land shut and watching the last of the initial wave of Goats fall into nothingness as Rokkenjima vanished.
The Golden Land's weather reflected the hearts of those inside it. The quietly falling raindrops spoke for the pain felt by those who could do nothing but hide here, waiting for the enemy's final assault. Those inside knew that this would likely be their tomb. Escaping to the Golden Land had bought them time, but what good was it? They had made their play, and had lost.
Suddenly there came a knock from outside. "Is anyone there?!" came the voice of Battler. Shannon and Kanon left to open the door, while the others looked around. Something had changed, obviously. Had a miracle occurred? Could they dare to hope for such a thing?
After a couple minutes, Battler and Beatrice came into view. Before anyone had a chance to ask anything, a konpeitou flew out of Battler's pocket, jumped on a nearby table, and returned to its original form of the Witch of Certainty, Lambdadelta.
"I haven't had a thrill like this for years!" she said. "Hard to believe I'd get put in a tight spot like this even after becoming a witch."
Battler turned to look at the others. "There are a fleet of Goat ships outside. If they decide to fire on us, it won't matter if the door of the Golden Land is shut, so if they do Shannon and Kanon will come back, and leave the door open. It'd be better to have everyone here for the assault." He looked to Lambdadelta. "Let's get down to business. Just where are Ange and Bernkastel?"
"The City of Books. Or rather, the Great Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating's Noble City of Carefully Selected Books."
"So, the Great Lady Aurora is the ruler of the City of Books. Truly a suitable place for her," frowned Beatrice.
"If we know where they are and the forces outside are still gathering reinforcements, that means we still have a shot at getting Ange back," stated Battler, though he looked to Lambda for confirmation.
"Time-wise, that may be true. However, there's a really simple and obvious problem."
"The City of Books is a sacred realm under the supervision of the Senate. It's protected by a holy barrier. Only a witch of the Senate can enter it. Sometimes exceptions are made, like in the case of parties, but it seems that Auaurora has decided to keep it on lockdown until all of you are dealt with, so we don't have any loopholes like invitations to use."
"In other words, it doesn't matter if we know where they are. None of us can get there to do anything about it." Beatrice paced a little, trying to find a way out of this predicament.
"That's right!" confirmed Lambda, sitting down at the edge of the table. "So, what are you all going to do now?! Could someone get me popcorn? I'd like a nice candy flavor this time!"
